On March 31st the Phi Beta Lambda chapters of the state of Iowa got a chance to tour the Story County Justice center. The members were able to see parts of the jail and the court house attached to the jail. We were able to go into a Superior Court room and have Judge Moon explain parts of the court system. Pam Hayes a Court reporter who explained the process of recording everything said while court is in session. Assistant County Attorney Crystal Rink explained the process of jury selection. She asked us questions to see if we could be on a jury. Clerk of Courts Shannon Brucklacher explained her job and also mentions there are positions to apply for that do not require a degree. Also present was Judge Moon’s law Clerk Nicole Berman who explained her duties as a law clerk which include research and finding cases that pertain to a case being heard. If ever get a chance to tour the Story County Justice Center take the tour.
