Freshman Alex Fuhs of Webster City tied for 14th place in the individual competition to lead the Des Moines Area Community College (DMACC) men’s golf team to a fifth-place finish in the Eagle Spring Classic April 2 and 3 at Hunters Ridge Golf Course in Marion.

Fuhs opened the tournament with a one-over-par 73 and then shot a 77 on the second day for a 36-hole total of 150, tying Eric Gilpin of Indian Hills Community College (IHCC) and Jake Sevcik of Kirkwood Community College (KCC) for 14th place. IHCC won the team championship with a 36-hole score of 571 and Jackson Bugdalski of IHCC took medalist honors with a five-under-par 139.

DMACC shot rounds of 323 and 314 for a 36-hoe total of 637 in finishing fifth.

Other DMACC results saw freshman Robert Flattery of Fort Dodge tie for 23rd place; freshman Aidan Fitchko of Huxley tied for 33rd place; freshman Parker Davidson of Altoona finished 42nd; freshman Sage Fitchko of Huxley finished in 50th place; freshman Trey Mason of Ankeny tied for 53rd; and freshman Avery Fuhs of Webster City finished in 60th place.

Flattery shot rounds of 80 and 74 for a 36-hole score of 154; Aiden Fitchko turned in rounds of 80 and 79 for a 159 total; Davidson posted rounds of 86 and 77 for a 163 total; Sage Fitchko finished at 172 on rounds of 84 and 88; Mason shot rounds of 87 and 89 for a 176; and Avery Fuhs had rounds of 95 and 86 for a 36-hole score of 181.

The DMACC men’s golf team will play in the National Junior College Athletic Association (NJCAA) Region XI Preview April 14 at Veenker Memorial Golf Course in Ames.
