Spring ball season is upon us, and the diamonds are finally opening for baseball and softball fans around the country. Both DMACC baseball and softball teams have had a handful of games so far this season, mostly traveling to much warmer places.

The baseball team has accumulated a record of 7-4 so far. They started off the season with a two-game series doubleheader vs. North Oklahoma-Tonkawa. Each team would take a game from the series, with both games being decided by one run. The Bears would take game one over the Mavericks 6-5. The Bears totaled 10 hits, including a 2-4 day from catcher Jackson Fisher which included a homerun and three RBIs. They would drop the second game with a final score of 7-6. DMACC would out hit NOCT by a margin of 5 hits, but they couldn’t quite outscore the Mavericks. Bears shortstop Brodie Kesser had a nice day at the plate, going 3-4 with three singles.

The next day, the boys would travel further south, down to North Central Texas College for a four-game series. This series included back-to-back doubleheaders over a two day span. The Bears would be victorious in all four games of the series with the final results being, 7-6, 14-12, 5-4, and 7-2.

The boys played four games this past weekend. A doubleheader vs North Oklahoma College-Enid on Saturday, including another game vs. them on Sunday. After their games against the Jets, the baseball team took on Seminole State College to close out their weekend series. The baseball team finished 2-3 on the weekend and Monday taking two games vs. NOCE, while losing two to NOCE and one Seminole State College and North Oklahoma-Tonkawa each. With an overall record of 7-4, the boys will head to Kansas over the weekend for a four game series vs. Butler KS.

The DMACC softball team is off to an amazing start in the early 2022 season. They are currently 9-0 on the young season, and are playing very well at the plate and in the field. The Bears have played five games in Mississippi and four in Oklahoma so far this year. In their impressive nine game win streak, the Bears scored a total of 72 runs. They have outscored their opponents on the year by a total of 59 runs, giving them an average margin of victory of about 6.5 runs per game.

Madison Kearns is having a nice year for the Bears, posting a .516 average with the most total at-bats. She also features a 1.065 slugging percentage and leads the team in RBIs and extra base-hits. Abby Flanagan is getting it done on the bump for the Bears, posting a 3-0 record and allowing only five hits in 13 innings of work. She has also not allowed an earned run over the course of her 13 innings.

The girls recently competed in Oklahoma over the weekend, taking on North Oklahoma College-Enid and Clarendon College each with a doubleheader. The Bears finished 4-0 on the weekend with results of 6-3, 8-1, 17-1, and 11-3. With a perfect 9-0 record on the year, the softball team will head to Council Bluffs to take on the Reivers of Iowa Western in a doubleheader on Wednesday, March 2.
