Over this past weekend, the DMACC women’s basketball team opened up their season participating in the Central College Classic in Columbus, Nebraska. The Lady Bears faced Southeast Community College on Friday where they came out with a 14-point win over the Storm. Magan Christopherson of Milford, Iowa, led the team with 26 points along with 6 assists. Right behind Christopherson was Payton Tahahwah of Tama, Iowa, with 20 points and 5 rebounds, and Emily Caspers of Swaledale, Iowa, with 13 points and 8 rebounds. 

Jadeyn Smith contributed 7 points, Karisma Wright with 5, and Reagan Franzen and Camry Jones both with 4 points each. The Bears defeated the Storm 88-74.

The following day the Bears took on the home team, the Central CC Raiders. The Lady Bears started the game hot by taking the lead going into the second quarter. The Raiders from there, unfortunately, held all of the momentum from there on, winning the game just shy of 10 points, 58-67. 

Emily Caspers led the Bears with 13 points and 9 rebounds on the day. Payton Tahahwah contributed 8 points and Magan Christopherson and Sharka Robertson with 7 points. Reagan Franzen and Lexi Branning both contributed 9 rebounds apiece.

The DMACC Men’s Basketball team played this weekend as well at the North Central Missouri Classic in Trenton, Missouri. The Bears faced Spoon River on Friday night, willing to fight for the win. The #1 ranked Bears defeated the Snappers with a triple-overtime win, 100-97. Noah Parcher of LaCrosse, Wisconsin, led the Bears with 23 points and 6 rebounds. Trailing behind Parcher was Micheal Hartford of McKinney, Texas, with 21 points. Goanar Biliew of Denison, Iowa, grabbed a total of 16 rebounds to go with his 18 points on the night. Greg Brown of Omaha, Nebraska, contributed 18 points and 8 rebounds as well. 

Jo Blair scored 7 points for the bears and Preston Thomas racked up 10 points for the Bears in their overtime victory.

The next day, the Bears took an unfortunate loss to the home team, North Central Missouri. Noah Parcher once again took the scoring lead with 20 points to go along with 5 assists on the day. Right on Parcher’s tail with scoring was Greg Brown with 19 points and 10 rebounds to earn himself a double-double. 

Preston Thomas added 9 points, James Glenn and Allen Udemadu both with 5 points apiece, and Goanar BIliew with 4 points.

Prepare for the Den to be packed tonight, Wednesday, November 10, with both teams competing at home for the women’s first home competition. The Lady Bears will be facing William Penn. University (JV) at 5:30 PM with the men’s team following at 7:30 PM facing Simpson College (JV).
