At the Boone campus, the Banner News team is not only run by students but is also supported by volunteers. Ever wanted to know what it’s like to be a part of a digital news website or podcast production? Interested in getting some interviewing or research experience? Perhaps you would like to expand your advertising skills or networking? Or build on that graphic design expertise? If you said yes to any of these questions, Banner has a home for you.

Banner News has two volunteers for Spring 2021.

Hello everyone! I’m Skylar and I’m a guest writer for Banner News. I have interests in journalism, fine arts, baking, travel, vinyl, and cuddling my very vocal pets. I joined Banner News this semester because I wanted to not only gain more experience in journalism but also wanted to make genuine connections with students and teachers in my major. When I’m not helping out at Banner, I’m counting cupcakes at Scratch Cupcakery in West Des Moines and studying for a degree in advertising.

Hi my name is Cody Gadberry and I am also a guest writer for Banner News. I am a freshman this year and graduated from Western Dubuque High School last year. Some of my interests are soccer, disc golf, video games, writing, and just going out with the boys. I joined Banner this semester because I am very interested in journalism and wanted to get into it more. It has really helped me understand the process of the major which is great. It was also cool to meet people who are interested in the same major as me and make new connections since most online classes are too large for that. When I am not in classes or doing homework, you can find me brewing some delicious coffee at Scooters in Boone or playing any kind of game me and my roommates can play in the yard at the DMACC apartments in Boone, and on occasion doing homework.
