Sophomore Beth Atwood scored 19 points and grabbed 11 rebounds as the (DMACC) women’s basketball team knocked off #15 Southeastern Community College (SCC), 73-61.  The Bear’s led 15-14 in a first quarter were both team started a little slow. When the second quarter began the Lady Bear’s clamped down defensively and outscored the Blackhawks 25-5 in the period. Taking a 40-19 lead into the half.

 

When the third quarter rolled around the Bear’s continued to control tempo and won the quarter 19-15, taking a 59-34 lead going into the fourth. That’s when the game got interesting. The Blackhawks made a  comeback led by Nadirah Oakman and Mackenzie Prezley who combined for 24 points in the fourth quarter. SCC came within 15 before sophomore’s Beth Atwood and Joniqua Clark closed out the game combining for 11 fourth quarter points. When the final buzzer sounded DMACC held on to a underwhelming 12 point win and moved to 3-0 in the conference.

 

In the win DMACC had 3 double digit scorers (Atwood,Mitchell,Stalzar) hitting 31-56 from the field good for 55%. We shot 5-14 from 3 point and 6-15 from the free throw line. Bear’s out rebounded Blackhawks 42-30 and collected 22 assists as a team. The girls will be on the road tonight against conference foe Southwestern Community College in Creston.
