Known for being a Railroad Town, Boone celebrates Pufferbilly Days the first weekend after Labor Day each year. The celebration is rated as one of the top five celebrations in Iowa with over 30,000 people every year.

For DMACC students, the parade will be Saturday, Sept. 9 at 9 a.m. The location is South Linn Street, and by looking for the DMACC semi-truck and vans, students can spot the DMACC entry.

Banner News interviewed Drew Nelson, the Provost of DMACC Boone campus, about this event. He said, “We are in the last half of the parade, and we do have Gators that will be handing out candies. We’ll have the DMACC eighteen-wheeler there, the Bear will be there. Students sure are free to be there, either from the side lines or walking along.”

Besides the parade, the Pufferbilly Days weekend also provides various entertainment. For example, Nelson introduced the quilt show. “The quilt show will be here this weekend. This is the first time we are hosting it. That’ll be in the Courter Center Friday, Saturday, and Sunday. I think there will even be a demonstration of how to conserve quilts.”

Students can also participate in the 2017 Pufferbilly Days 5K/10K Run/Walk, which will be held on Saturday, Sept. 9, 7 a.m. at the YMCA.

Furthermore, the classic car show, bags tournament, horseshoe tournament, pet show, and mud volleyball will also be held at the Pufferbilly Days weekend. Students can feel free to check the Pufferbilly Days website. The full activity schedule is also can be seen at the website.
